UCI Stays Home For Match With Santa Clara

IRVINE, Calif.— The Anteaters return to the confines of the Anteater Tennis Stadium on Saturday Feb. 8 at 11 a.m. to take on Santa Clara.

    • All three Anteater doubles pairings earned at least one point versus the Vandals
    • The pairing of Carolyna Fowler and Yen Nhi Huynh were ahead 5-4 in their No. 2 doubles match when the point was clinched
    • Senior captain Kayla Meraz was the first to finish her individual match, taking a 6-2, 6-0 win on court one
    • Fellow captain Haily Huynh was the second Anteater to win a singles match, with a 6-3, 6-2 rout of her opponent at No. 6
    • Both the matches at the No. 2 and No. 3 spots went into three sets
    • One of the three sets in each extra set match went to extra points with the Anteaters claiming both of those sets
  • Both H. Huynh and Meraz have the only Anteater single match wins this season
  • It is the third meeting between UC Irvine and Santa Clara in the last four seasons
  • The Broncos hold the slight 3-2 series advantage over the Anteater, winning the last two contests

Scouting Santa Clara
Santa Clara heads into the match with a 3-1 overall record and will stop first in Irvine for a two-game swing in southern California. In the Broncos last outing, they fell narrowly to Fresno State, 4-3. SCU has already faced Big West foe UC Davis in their season opener and will take on four other league opponents of the Anteaters.
 
In dual match competition, Velizara Fileva is a perfect 4-0 at the No. 3 singles spot, followed by Jillian Roa who is undefeated (3-0) at the No. 4 spot. Fileva and Roa team up in doubles competition to remain perfect across the board with a 3-0 mark at No. 1.
