IRVINE, Calif. – UC Irvine men's volleyball players
Hilir Henno and
Joe Karlous picked up Big West weekly awards after helping the second-ranked Anteaters to a pair of wins over No. 9 Stanford on the road.
Henno was named Big West Offensive Player of the Week after averaging 5.83 points, 4.67 kills, 1.50 digs, 0.83 service aces and 0.67 blocks last week. In the first match, the outside hitter had 15 kills, hitting .500 (15-3-24) while adding two aces and two block assists. The next night, he totaled 13 kills, three aces, eight digs and two block assists. Henno upped his UCI career ace record to 203. It is Henno's ninth career Big West Offensive Player of the Week award and 15th overall weekly recognition.
Karlous garnered Setter of the Week accolades for the second consecutive week. He totaled 31 set assists, nine digs and two blocks (one solo) in the first meeting with the Cardinal then tallied 19 set assists, six digs, two kills and a block assist in the second. For the week, Karlous averaged 8.33 set assists and 2.50 digs.
UC Irvine remains undefeated at 7-0 and No. 2 in the country, picking up a pair of first place votes this week. Â
The Anteaters lead the nation in aces (2.88) behind the serving of Henno who is second in the country with a 1.00 ace average. He is also second in the country in points per set (5.29) and sixth in kills (3.94).
Karlous leads the Big West and is ninth nationally in digs with a 2.43 average.
UCI has one match this week at cross-town foe Concordia Saturday (Feb. 8) at 7:00 p.m.
