IRVINE, Calif. – The UC Irvine women's tennis team finished play at the CSUN Fall Invitational on Sunday. The tournament's close, in conjunction with UCI's participation in the Pomona-Pitzer Invitational, ended the Anteater fall season.
The Anteaters swept doubles matches played on Sunday, going 3-0 in the format. Yen Nhi Huynh and Haily Huynh combined to take down Youngstown State's Dudova and Partida Garcia 6-0 to highlight the UCI doubles domination on the last day of the tournament.
UC Irvine fared well in doubles throughout the weekend, taking home six victories in nine doubles matches at the CSUN Fall Invitational. The Anteater combination of Bella Pitchford and Maily Huynh claimed half of those victories alone, as the pair went undefeated in matches played together.
On the singles side, UC Irvine collected four more victories in the format on the last day of the tournament. Overall, UCI won 14 singles matches over three days, including a 6-0 undefeated Saturday against UOP. Y. Huynh, Pitchford and Amanda Perez all went unbeaten in singles matches at the CSUN Fall Invitational, contributing nine of the 14 Anteater victories.
UCI women's tennis will resume its season in January 2026.
FROM HEAD COACH ELIZABETH FERRIS SMITH
"This is a great tournament where we had the opportunity to play a new team in singles and doubles each day and see a variety of styles and high level tennis under some tough circumstances of heat and wind. We played with a lot of confidence, maturity and discipline and we weren't afraid to use a variety of tools to win points. We didn't get stuck being stubborn trying to force one style of play. We played defense appropriately and also took the mid court when needed. We found ways to play to our opponents weaknesses and masked our own and played solid situational tennis. In doubles we made more first serves and committed to taking returns early and moving more at net. Our efforts paid off as several players went undefeated. We allowed this tough fall schedule to sharpen us mentally and physically and we are excited for the dual portion of the season to start!"
FROM AMANDA PEREZÂ
"I enjoyed competing with my team to close out the fall season. We all came in with high energy and grit, and it really showed in our matches. I'm proud of all of us for fighting and swinging through all our matches no matter the score or conditions. Playing as a hidden dual format allowed us to all support each other in a line, and it makes me excited for us to play as a team into the regular season!"
FROM YEN NHI HUYNH
"I'm really thankful for the opportunity to play the last two fall tournaments as a dual format. Everyone persevered and fought for themselves and for their teammates. The energy was great for the entire tournament despite the hot conditions. I'm excited for us to develop our game and strengthen our confidence and self belief. Super excited for the upcoming season! Go Eaters!"
FROM BELLA PITCHFORD
"This was a great tournament to focus on my game plan and committing to my shots. I think overall that's what helped me pull out matches as well as the belief that I could. We all competed and fought hard out there. Everyone was committed to their games and overall had a great tourney!"
