IRVINE, Calif. – The UC Irvine women's tennis team opened play at the UCI Fall Invitational on Oct. 30, hosting UC Riverside, Cal State Los Angeles and Biola University on Thursday. The teams will compete through Nov. 1 in a hidden-dual format tournament.
The Anteaters took home five singles victories against Biola and three doubles victories on Thursday.Â
Four freshmen collected singles wins on the first day of play: Sayuri Parandian, Kara Chen, Mackenzie Lukin and Ani Vanetsyan. Junior Bella Pitchford took home UCI's fifth victory of the day, winning her sets 6-1 and 6-2, respectively.Â
Parandian was taken to extra points in her win, coming back after dropping the first set of the match 6-3. Parandian was the only Anteater to go to extra points on Thursday, winning the final two sets of her day 6-1 and 7-6 with a 7-5 final tiebreaker to decide the match.
In doubles play, UCI took home three wins with pairings of Lindsay Kim/Vanetsyan, Pitchford/Lukin and Maily Huynh/Parandian.Â
