Anteaters Compete in UCI Fall Invitational, Jack Kramer Classic

| By:
IRVINE, Calif. – The UC Irvine women's tennis fall season continues with two tournaments this week for head Coach Elizabeth Ferris Smith's squad. The Anteaters will host the UCI Fall Invitational in Irvine and will simultaneously send part of its team to the Jack Kramer Classic in Rolling Hills Estates, Calif. Joining the Anteaters at the UCI Fall Invitational will be Cal State Los Angeles, UC Riverside and Biola. The portion of UC Irvine's team headed to Rolling Hills Estates will face off against players from USC, Loyola Marymount and Pepperdine amongst others.

The matches for both tournaments will be played in the "hidden dual" format, a scoring system where no team scores are recorded, but results count for players' individual records.
Here are five things to know before the week's play.

TOURNAMENT DATES AND TIMES

UC Irvine opens play for the week on Thursday, Oct. 30, hosting the UCI Fall Invitational with a 9:00 a.m. start. The Anteaters Jack Kramer Classic squad begins play on Friday, Oct. 31.

SPLIT-SQUAD WEEKEND

UCI will send four players to the Jack Kramer Classic — Carolyna Fowler, Haily Huynh, Yen Nhi Huynh and Amanda Perez. The Anteaters remaining players will stay home and represent UC Irvine in the UCI Fall Invitational.

THE ANTEATER FALL SEASON ROLLS ON

The two tournaments will serve as the fourth and fifth showcases for UCI on the season, respectively. UC Irvine has played in the San Diego area for all three of its tournaments thus far, playing in the Big West Fall Selection Event and Triton Invitationals in La Jolla, Calif. and the ITA Southwest Regional Championships in San Diego, Calif. Across the three events, UCI picked up 14 doubles wins and had efforts led by Mackenzie Lukin, who went 1-1 in her singles matches and won both of her doubles matches at the Big West Fall Selection Event.

STAFFING UPDATES

Head coach Elizabeth Ferris Smith continues her 10th season at the helm of Irvine's women's tennis program. Joining Ferris Smith will be newly promoted assistant coach Hermont Legaspi, who enters his first season as a first assistant. Legaspi served as a volunteer assistant coach for UC Irvine in 2024-25. In addition, Akhil Nandhakumar returns to the Anteaters in their second season as a student manager.

UCI CLOSES ITS FALL SEASON

After closing out this weekend, UC Irvine will play at the CSUN Invitational and Pomona-Pitzer Invitational, with both tournaments running from Nov. 7 to Nov. 9.
At the CSUN and Pomona-Pitzer Invitationals, the Anteaters will once again have the opportunity to split its squad and use the majority of its roster in a single weekend again.

FROM HEAD COACH ELIZABETH FERRIS SMITH

"We are looking forward to hosting our home tournament and also sending four to the Kramer event. We haven't played [at] Kramer in a few years and we are anticipating this to be a top notch event … These two events also give us a chance to test some new doubles pairings. We've had some strong wins in the last two fall events, getting better as tournaments go on and we are looking to play consistently well over these three tough days of competition."
