'Eaters Travel to Maui for Ka'anapali Classic

IRVINE, Calif. - UC Irvine men's golf wraps up the fall tournament season with a trip to Maui for the Ka'anapali Classic by OUTRIGGER, Oct. 27-29. The three-day tournament will be contested on the par-71, 6,700-yard Royal Ka'anapali Golf Course. Eighteen holes are scheduled for each day with an 8:30 a.m. HT/11:30 a.m. PT shotgun start.

The Anteaters are part of a loaded 19-team field that features 10 programs ranked among the top-100 in the nation, including No. 21 Oklahoma, which is the three-time defending Ka'anapali Classic champion. Also in the top-100 are No. 39 Colorado, No. 40 Georgia, No. 41 Kansas, No. 58 Florida Gulf Coast, No. 59 TCU, No. 70 San Jose State, No. 84 Indiana, No. 87 East Tennessee State, and No. 91 Southern Illinois. Boise State, CSUN, Gonzaga, North Florida, Sacramento State, UConn, Wyoming, and tournament host Hawai'i, round out the field.

UCI's 5-count-4 lineup is comprised of Rei Harashima, Owen Davis-Piger, Jason Tang, Tommy Lin, and Kody Li. Li will be making his collegiate debut.

LAST TIME OUT
UC Irvine climbed three spots into the top-10 after the final round of the Oregon State Invitational at Illahe Hills Country Club (Oct. 14-15). The Anteaters finished ninth overall with a 5-count-4 total of 890 (301-296-293). Rei Harashima carded UCI's only round below par over the two-day tournament as he fired a 2-under 70 through the final 18. Harashima rose 17 spots in the standings, finishing in a tie for 21st at 220 (76-74-70). Jason Tang, who paced the 'Eaters in the first two rounds, also tied for 21st (73-74-73). Jack Yu tied for 40th with a 224 (73-75-76), while Tommy Lin (79-73-74) was two strokes back in a tie for 48th. Owen Davis-Piger (233) rounded out UC Irvine's lineup in a tie for 73rd.

SENIOR LEADER
Senior Rei Harashima, who has been the Anteaters' top finisher in each of the last two tournaments, ranks first on the squad with a 72.67 average through nine rounds. He kicked off the year with an 18-hole season-best 68 in the opening round of the Mark Simpson Colorado Invitational. In 2024-25, Harashima led the 'Eaters with nine sub-70 rounds and a 72.13 stroke average. The three-time All-Big West honoree placed among the top-10 at the conference championships in each of the last two years, finishing third in 2024 and eighth in 2025. Harashima has played in every tournament for UCI over the last three-plus seasons, compiling seven top-10 showings and a 72.53 career average (102 rounds). 

YEAR TWO
Sophomores Jack Yu and Tommy Lin are coming off impressive freshmen campaigns in which they both earned All-Big West honorable mention recognition. Yu ranked second on the 2024-25 squad with a 72.48 scoring average, while Lin was fourth at 73.38. Lin (T11th) and Yu (T18th) also placed among the top-20 in their Big West Championship debuts. Classmate Owen Davis-Piger played in five tournaments last year, finishing with a 74.87 average. This year, Yu leads the sophomore trio with a 72.78 average. He had back-to-back rounds of 69 to start the Mark Simpson Colorado Invitational, and finished the season-opening tournament at 6-under 210.

MR. CONSISTENCY
Junior Jason Tang has played in every tournament since he arrived on campus in 2023-24. Through 69 rounds, Tang owns a 73.72 career average. He has five top-20 showings with a career-best sixth-place finish coming in his collegiate debut where he carded a 10-under 203 at the Nick Watney Invitational in September 2023.
