SCORING BREAKDOWN
- First period: Both teams were on an offensive standstill nearing the halfway point of opening action. Momentum picked up for No. 6/7 UC Irvine when Zayd Mahmoud blocked a five-meter attempt from the Cardinal which led to an exclusion call helping Luka Krstic find the back of the net at 4:07. No. 3/3 Stanford (3:39, 1:37) also took advantage of their power play opportunities to go up 2-1.
- Krstic (1)
- Second period: Krstic (7:32) stole the ball on Stanford's opening drive and received the ball back off the give and go with Stewart Campbell to knot the game 2-all. Gage Verdegaal's (3:52) skip shot and Johann Thrall's (2:12) nearside missile helped bring the Anteaters back within one point before the Cardinal responded at 1:50, 6-4.
- Krstic (1), Thrall (1), and Verdegaal (1)
- Third period: UCI struggled offensively due to No. 3/3 Stanford's lockdown defense. The Cardinal were able to score six unanswered in eight minutes to lead, 12-4.
- Fourth period: Stanford did not back down on offense as they had two more shots hit the back of the cage. Not giving up, Tyler Laymon (3:20) had a beauty ring off the far post and into the goal on his catch and shoot opportunity as the 'Eaters fell, 14-5.
- Laymon (1)
