TULSA, Okla. - UC Irvine men's tennis wrapped up the pre-qualifying doubles consolation draw with a win over the University of Miami Sunday evening at Case Tennis Center.
Â
A rain delay and a move to the University of Tulsa's indoor courts didn't faze the Anteaters' 90th-ranked duo of
Hiroki Sakagawa and
Noah Zamora. The pair got out to an impressive start, winning the first set against the Hurricanes' Martin Katz/Antonio Prat, 6-4. The two sides went back-and-forth in the second frame before the 'Eaters closed it out with a 7-6 (7-3) victory. Last year, Katz/Prat went 8-3 in dual matches with four ACC wins, while they were ranked as high as 70th in the nation.
Â
Earlier in the day, Sakagawa concluded action in the pre-qualifying singles consolation draw with a 6-2, 6-3 loss to Pablo Perez Ramos of NJIT.
Â
Zamora will begin singles play in the Main Draw Round of 64 on Wednesday, Sept. 25. Zamora, who is No. 121 in the ITA Preseason National Rankings, is one of 48 automatic main draw qualifiers.
