September 25, 2024 | Men's Tennis
TULSA, Okla. - UC Irvine men's tennis senior Noah Zamora pushed the fourth-ranked singles player in the nation to three sets but was unable to complete the upset in the ITA All-American Championships Main Draw Wednesday at Case Tennis Center.
Zamora opened the Round of 64 by taking the early lead with an impressive 7-6 (8-6) first-set win over No. 4 Cooper Williams of Duke. Williams, an All-American and the 2023-24 ITA National Rookie of the Year, then regrouped to pull away with the 6-7 (6), 6-1, 6-1 victory.
Zamora is 121st in the ITA Preseason National Singles Rankings. He is a three-time All-Big West selection in both singles and doubles.
Zamora will be back in action tomorrow at 9 a.m. (CT) when he squares off against Tulsa's Reiya Komagata to kick off the consolation rounds. The consolation draw will be played out with the two finalists qualifying for the NCAA Singles Championship in November.
