IRVINE, Calif. --- UC Irvine men's soccer got its first win of the season downing Mercyhurst, 3-1, Sunday afternoon at Anteater Stadium.
- The Anteaters started the scoring with a 25th-minute strike. Francesco Montanile drove the right wing starting a give-and-go with Travis Babineau shooting up into the box and finishing around the sprawled out keeper for a 1-0 advantage
- The Lakers put up a late chance that Alex Shields saved in the first half before UCI went into the locker room with a 1-0 lead
- UCI added the second goal for a 2-0 lead in the 57th minute. A corner was sent back into the mixer by Brady Treinen to Danny de Lorijn who settled and shot a ball that was saved, and the rebound fell to Justin Conyers to punch home his first career goal
- Mercyhurst got back into the match quickly thereafter on a touchline feed to Dylan Sumner who placed his first touch into the upper left to make it a 2-1 game in the 63rd minute
- The Anteaters held back the Laker attack as they looked for the equalizer saving a couple of threats by Sumner
- The match was put to rest in the 85th minute as Noah Clarkson and the attack moved onto goal. His feed to Agaton Pourshahidi put him in for a shot that was stopped before falling to Misael Gonzalez to tap it in and make it 3-1
- In goal, Alex Shields picked up two saves for his first collegiate win. 'Eaters put up 13 shots to Mercyhurst's seven recording eight on frame
- Montanile's goal was the sixth of his career along with Conyers and Gonzalez who registered their first career goals. Conyers' also went down as the game-winning goal.
- Five Anteaters picked up assists with Danny de Lorijn's the first assist and point of his Anteater career.
- A number of Anteaters made their debuts for the program including second-year Anteater and transfer Isaiah Quarcoo, junior college transfer Misael Gonzalez, and redshirt freshman Braden Ferreira
