IRVINE, Calif. - Recent UC Irvine men's track & field graduate
Josh Farmer will represent the United States at the 2024 Thorpe Cup, July 20-21, in Wetzlar, Germany.
Â
The Thorpe Cup is an international track & field competition between the U.S. and Germany. Teams are composed of up to seven men and seven women who compete in the decathlon and heptathlon. On the men's side, the top five decathlon scores are added together to determine the overall team winner.
Â
Farmer was selected to the team based on his results at the U.S. Olympic Trials where he finished 14th. He will be joined by Sam Black, Ryan Talbot, Denim Rogers, Hunter Jones, Daniel Spencer and Hakim McMorris.
Â
Farmer was a three-time All-American in the decathlon during his time with the Anteaters. Last month, he placed 12th at the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships. Farmer was also the 2024 Big West decathlon champion and established a personal-record 7,703 points at the Bryan Clay Invitational in April. That score ranks second among UCI's all-time leaders and is a school record since the scoring table changed in 1986.
Â
In June, Farmer graduated with his master's degree in demographic and social analysis. He was a three-time USTFCCCA and Big West All-Academic selection. In addition, he was named to the 2024 College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Team.
