
'Eaters Kick off Big West Championships with Heptathlon This Weekend

IRVINE, Calif. - The UC Irvine women's track & field team kicks off the 2024 Big West Championships with the heptathlon, May 3-4, at Cal Poly's Miller & Capriotti Athletics Complex in San Luis Obispo. Both days will start at 11:30 a.m.
Jolie Robinson, Jazzmine Davis, Laura Sangiacomo and Chaselyn Amos are slated to compete in this weekend's multi-event championship.
Junior Jolie Robinson is the reigning Big West heptathlon champion and enters the meet ranked second in the conference with a season-best 5,213 points, which she set at the UCR Spring Classic Multis, March 21-22. At last year's conference meet, she closed out the competition with a personal-record 5,343 points to move up to No. 5 in program history. She is also fifth among UCI's all-time leaders in the long jump (5.97m) and tied for sixth in the javelin (42.78m). The Mission Viejo native was the 2023 Big West Women's Field Athlete of the Year and Field Athlete of the Meet.
Jazzmine Davis, a junior college transfer, established a personal-record 4,877 points at the UCR Spring Classic Multis (March 21-22). That mark is the fourth-best in the conference this season and ranks 10th in school history. Davis also sits among the Anteaters' all-time top-10 in the 100m hurdles (5th) where she clocked a lifetime-best 13.78 at the Vince O'Boyle Classic. The Sherman Oaks, California, native was the 2023 California Community College Athletic Association state champion in the heptathlon, 100H and 4x100 relay as a sophomore at Cerritos College.
Seniors Laura Sangiacomo and Chaselyn Amos will be competing in their second career Big West heptathlon. Sangiacomo ranks 10th in the conference with a personal-record 4,253 points which she compiled at the Bryan Clay Invitational, April 11-12. She has set lifetime bests in five of the seven events this year. Amos is 11th in The Big West with a season-best 4,232 points. Both Amos and Sangiacomo made the switch to the heptathlon as sophomores in 2022.
The remainder of the 2024 Big West Championship events are slated for May 10-11 at Cal Poly.
