
Anteaters Start Strong at Big West Heptathlon

SAN LUIS OBISO, Calif. - Four Anteaters completed the first day of the heptathlon at the 2024 Big West Multi-Event Championships Friday at Miller & Capriotti Athletics Complex.
Junior Jazzmine Davis leads UC Irvine through four events as she sits in fourth with 3,100 points. Davis started strong with a time of 13.81 seconds in the 100m hurdles, which was the second-best of the meet. She then cleared a season best and tied her personal record in the high jump with a clearance of 1.49 meters (4-10.5). Davis placed among the top-five in the remaining two events as she was fifth in the shot put (10.81m/35-5.75) and second in the 200m (24.83).
Junior Jolie Robinson, who is the defending Big West champion, is currently sixth with 3,024 points. She opened the competition with a personal-record 14.57 in the 100H. She was also UCI's top performer in the high jump where she cleared 1.52m (4-11.75) and in the shot put where she had a toss of 11.66m (38-3.25). Her shot put mark was the second-best of the meet. Robinson closed out the afternoon with a time of 25.49 in the 200m.
Seniors Laura Sangiacomo (2,639) and Chaselyn Amos (2,604) are 11th and 14th, respectively. Sangiacomo set lifetime bests in the first two events with a time of 15.32 in the 100H and a height of 1.49m (4-10.5) in the high jump. Amos also notched a personal-best 15.97 in the 100H, while she was third in the shot put with a toss of 11.10m (36-5).
The UC Irvine quartet returns to Miller & Capriotti Athletics Complex tomorrow for the final three events of the Big West Heptathlon. Action gets underway with the long jump at 11 a.m.
