IRVINE, Calif. - The UC Irvine men's track & field team kicked off the 2024 Steve Scott Invitational Friday at Anteater Stadium.

The 'Eaters had four top-five finishes in the field events.
Logan Peyton was second in the javelin with a toss of 58.72 meters (192-9).

Garren Haynes opened the long jump with a personal-record 7.32m (24-0.25). That stood as his best mark of the meet and was good for fifth overall.

In the pole vault,
Josh Farmer did not miss at his first three heights and ultimately closed out the competition at 4.56m (14-11.5) to come in fourth.
Max Daniels also cleared a lifetime-best 4.56m (14-11.5) for a fifth-place showing.

The distance athletes took the stage on Friday evening.
Cameron Smith started things off with a runner-up performance in the steeplechase, clocking a season-best 9:10.61.
Joshua Schuld also ran a season-best 9:24.30 to place fourth, while
Jimmy Markowicz was sixth in a personal-record 9:38.66.

Juan Sanchez picked up an individual victory in the 5000-meter Open. Sanchez stayed with the lead group and made his move on the final lap, passing the competition and crossing the finish line in 14:45.23.

Jacob Bustamante led a trio of Anteaters in the 5000m Invitational with a time of 14:31.09.

Zeid Hussain closed out the distance events in the mile (4:20.43).

UCI returns to Anteater Stadium tomorrow for day two of the Steve Scott Invitational.
