Harashima Goes Low on Second Day of Western Intercollegiate

SANTA CRUZ, Calif. - UC Irvine men's golf saw a 16-stroke improvement in the second round of the 77th Western Intercollegiate Tuesday at Pasatiempo Golf Club.
 
The Anteaters combined for a 6-count-5 score of 371. They remained in 14th place at 758 (387-371), but are just two strokes behind Hawai'i heading into tomorrow's final round.
 
No. 38 Stanford took a slight lead with a total of 709 (354-355). No. 9 Arizona (711), No. 8 Washington (712) and No. 34 San Diego State (713) are all within four strokes of the Cardinal. The Wildcats' Filip Jakubcik sits atop the individual leaderboard at 4-under 136.
 
Rei Harashima tied his collegiate best with a 65 (-5). He had five birdies on the front nine and closed out the second round with an eagle on the par-5, 491-yard 18th. Harashima climbed 54 spots into a tie for 20th with a 36-hole score of 142 (77-65).
 
Darien Zhao is tied for 66th with a two-round total of 150 (75-75), while Jin Nakao is tied for 73rd at 152 (76-76).
 
Jason Tang (T81st), Yaoting Zou (T92nd) and Joshua Lane (94th) round out UCI's lineup. Zhao and Zou also eagled the 18th hole.
 
The 'Eaters will close out the 77th Western Intercollegiate Wednesday with tee times slated for an 8:04 a.m. start.
