UC Irvine Competes At Big West Championships

BIG WEST CHAMPIONSHIP CENTRAL


OFF THE TEE
UC Irvine will compete at the Big West Championship Sunday-Tuesday (Apr. 14-16) at the Spanish Trail Country Club in Las Vegas, Nevada.

UCI joins Big West members Cal Poly, Cal State Fullerton, CSU Bakersfield, CSUN, Hawaii, Long Beach State, UC Davis and UC Riverside in a quest for a Big West title.

Teams will play 18 holes each day.

The Anteater lineup includes Alyson Sor, Kiana Briggs, Jasmine Chen, Megan Yang, Charlotte Ryoo.

UCI will play with Cal State Bakersfield and UC Riverside during the first round Sunday with the first tee time starting at 9:20 a.m..

This is the second consecutive year the Championships have been played at the Spanish Trail course.

2023 CHAMPIONSHIP REWIND
At last year's championship, UCI finished fifth with a three-round score of 919 (309-307-303).

Megan Yang led UCI placing seventh with a score of 224 (75-79-70), leading the tournament field in birdies with 11.

Kiana Briggs was tied for 11th (227-79-75-73) and Jasmine Chen was tied for 16th (230-77-75-78).

AT THE CHAMPIONSHIP
UCI has captured five Big West Championship (2002, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008).

Three Anteaters have won the Individual Big West Championship title (Stella Lee, Selanne Henderson, Kim Lorenzana).

At the 2001 Big West Championship, Megan Yang fired a school record 65 on the first round at the Yorba Linda Country Club.

ABOUT THE ANTEATERS
The Anteaters shot a season-low 285 in the third round of the Timpanogos Invitational and the second round of Clash at Boulder Creek.

UCI finished in a tie for third at the Utah Tech Trailblazer.

Anteater players fired rounds of 69 or better six times in the fall. Four players went 69 or lower with Jasmine Chen, Megan Yang and Alyson Sor all recording a season-low 68.

Freshman Alyson Sor leads the team with a 74.18 scoring average over 17 rounds.  She had a team-best sixth place finish at Utah Tech Trailblazer Invitational (224).  She also had a Top 20 finish at the Timpagogos Collegiate Classic with a 17th place performance (214).
