Andy Nguyen has been named The Big West Men's Tennis Player of the Week the conference office announced Wednesday afternoon.

Nguyen was recognized after helping UC Irvine to a 4-3 win over Gonzaga last Saturday (March 23).

Nguyen gave the Anteaters their first lead of the match as his convincing 6-3, 6-2 triumph over Pablo Gomez Galvan at No. 4 singles put UCI up 2-1. It was his third straight-set victory in his last four decisions. On the season, Nguyen is tied for second on the team in dual-match singles wins with a 7-3 record.

In doubles, Nguyen and
Hiroki Sakagawa came up short against the Zags' Gomez Galvan/Leon Roider at No. 2. Despite the loss, the duo has been a steady force for the 'Eaters, playing together in all 15 matches with an 8-5 record.

This is Nguyen's first career weekly award and second for UC Irvine this year.

The Anteaters will open Big West play this weekend, traveling to UC Davis for a 12 p.m. showdown on Saturday, March 30.
