
UCI Closes out Impressive Showing at Riverfront Invitational

SPOKANE, Wash. - The UC Irvine women's indoor track & field team capped a strong showing at the three-day Riverfront Invitational & Multis with eightΒ marks that rank among the program's all-time top-10 Saturday at The Podium.

Alana Sugue made a statement in her collegiate debut, winning the pole vault with a clearance of 3.75 meters (12-3.5). After her first meet as an Anteater, Sugue ranks second in indoor program history.

Deandra Tyler and Nyla Baker both established personal bests in the shot put. Tyler was third out of 44 competitors with a toss of 14.96m (49-1), which is third in school history. Baker also moved up one spot to No. 4 on UCI's all-time charts as she finished sixth overall at 14.02m (46-00).

On the track, Reyna Johnson and Jazzmine Davis both advanced to the 60m hurdle final. Johnson took sixth in a personal-record 8.61 seconds, improving on her No. 5 time at UC Irvine. Davis was eighth overall. In the prelims, Davis notched a lifetime-best 8.58 which is fourth in program history.

In the 60m dash, Hallena Sutherland climbed six spots into fourth among the Anteater leaders with a personal-best 7.67 in the prelims. She advanced out of the qualifying round with a then PR of 7.73.
Lauren Aquino was UC Irvine's top performer in the 400m, placing 29th out of 81 with a personal-record 57.58. Her time cracked UCI's all-time top-10, coming in at No. 9.

Malia Gay led five 'Eaters in the mile, clocking in at 5:01.22 for a top-20 showing in a field of 87 runners. Kaia Schmidt (5:04.34), Makena Castillo (5:10.90) and Maggie Sczupak (5:16.41) also established personal bests.

The Anteaters closed out the meet in the 4x400 relay where Jazzmine Davis, Mia Marquez, Gay and Aquino combined for a season-best 3:52.26, which ranks sixth in indoor school history.
