IRVINE, Calif. -Β The UC Irvine women's indoor track & field team makes its way back to The Podium in Spokane, Washington, for the MPSF Championships, Feb. 25-26. The pentathlon will kick things off Sunday at 11 a.m., while Monday's action is slated for a 9 a.m. start. Twenty-seven Anteaters are entered in 17 events.

β’ UC Irvine is familiar with the championship venue as two of its previous three meets were held at The Podium.
β’ This is also the third year in a row The Podium will host the MPSF Championships.
β’ Jolie Robinson (Pentathlon) and Deandra Tyler (Shot Put) own the top marks in the MPSF in their respective events.

LAST TIME OUT
In their last outing at the Riverfront Invitational & Multis on Feb. 1-3, the 'Eaters combined for 15 marks that rank among the program's all-time top-10. Leading the way was Reyna Johnson, who bettered her own school record in the long jump with a leap of 5.93 meters (19-5.5). Kailah McKenzie also notched a lifetime-best 5.80m (19-0.5) to rank third in program history. Alana Sugue made a statement in her collegiate debut, winning the pole vault with a clearance of 3.75m (12-3.5), which puts her at No. 2 among UCI's leaders.

ONE-TWO PUNCH
In the multis, UC Irvine is represented by the last two California Community College Athletic Association State heptathlon champions. Jolie Robinson claimed the title as a freshman at Saddleback College in 2022, while Jazzmine Davis did the same as a sophomore at Cerritos College in 2023. Earlier this month at the Riverfront Invitational & Multis, Robinson accumulated a personal-record 3,598 points in the pentathlon to rank third in program history. Davis also established UC Irvine's fourth-best pentathlon score with 3,470 points.

MPSF ACCLAIM
Junior Reyna Johnson was named the MPSF Women's Indoor Track & Field Athlete of the Week on Jan. 16. She was recognized for her performance at the season-opening Spokane Indoor Challenge where she won the long jump with a school-record 5.89 meters (19-4). Johnson improved her standard with a leap of 5.93m (19-5.5), and ran UCI's fifth-fastest 60m hurdle time of 8.61 seconds at the Riverfront Invitational.

MOVIN' ON UP
Senior Mia Marquez established an indoor 400m personal-record at the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Invitational (Jan. 20). Marquez registered an altitude-adjusted time of 56.27 to climb six spots to No. 2 on the Anteaters' all-time charts.

BIG TIME DEBUTS
UC Irvine's freshmen have made an immediate impact in 2024. Three first-year student-athletes already rank among the program's top-10 in multiple events. Kailah McKenzie is third in the long jump (19-0.5), fourth in the high jump (5-5.75) and eighth in the 60H (8.77). Hallena Sutherland is also third in the 200m (24.85) and fourth in the 60m (7.67), while Kaia Schmidt cracked the top-10 in the 800m (7th) and mile (10th). In addition, Alana Sugue registered the second-best pole vault height in indoor school history in her collegiate debut at the Riverfront Invitational on Feb. 3.

TYLER DEFENDS TITLE
Senior Deandra Tyler defended her shot put title at the Spokane Indoor Challenge, winning the event with a toss of 14.87 meters (48-9.5). She went on to establish a PR and MPSF-leading mark of 14.96m (49-1) at the Riverfront Invitational. Tyler ranks third in program history in the shot put and fourth in the weight throw (16.71m/54-10).
