IRVINE, Calif. -- UC Irvine women's water polo alum Tara Prentice helped Team USA to secure the gold medal at the 2024 World Aquatics Championship in Doha, Qatar.

Despite a close 10-8 win over the Netherlands in the opening game, Team USA outscored their opponents 67-16 in the group stage. Prentice was one of three Americans to score multiple goals in the contest against the Netherlands. The attacker was able to end the scoreless drought for either side after the halfway point in the four period to put Team USA ahead, 10-6.

Prentice then went on to post two consecutive hat-tricks to close out the group stage. The Temecula native added two steals to her scoring effort in the win over Brazil.

The attacker tallied a shot versus Australia, deposited a goal and blocked a shot against Spain, and recorded a steal in the finale versus Hungary.

Prentice won her second World Championship title with Team USA, the first since 2022. She made UC Irvine history two years ago as the first Anteater to bring home a World Championship medal.
