Zamora Punches Ticket to NCAA Singles Championship

October 21, 2024

TEMPE, Ariz. - Senior Noah Zamora punched his ticket to the NCAA Singles Championship with a straight-set win in the semifinals of the ITA Southwest Regional Monday afternoon at Kiwanis Tennis Center.

Zamora, who is ranked 121st in the nation, continued his dominance in the main draw with a 6-2, 6-1 victory over UCLA's Emon Van Loben Sels to advance to tomorrow's final.

Zamora's run to the championship match, which started on Friday, also included victories over Diego Dalisay (Hawai'i), Sebastian Nothhaft (LMU), Lucca Liu (UC Santa Barbara) and No. 109 Casper Christensen (Arizona). He has dropped only one set in the tournament.

As an ITA Regional finalist, Zamora clinched his spot in the NCAA Singles Championship which will be held at Baylor, Nov. 19-24. This is the first year that the singles and doubles championships will be contested in the fall instead of after the NCAA team championship in the spring. Zamora is the Anteaters' first NCAA singles qualifier since Chris Kearney in 2011.

Zamora will square off against No. 55 Spencer Johnson of UCLA in the ITA Southwest Regional final Tuesday at 10 a.m.
