Men's Tennis Set for ITA Southwest Regional Championships

IRVINE, Calif. - UC Irvine men's tennis travels to Tempe, Arizona, for the ITA Southwest Regional Championships, Oct. 17-22.
All nine Anteaters will make the trip. Mason Bui, Max Fardanesh and Sohrob Amiryavari are set to kick off the tournament in the qualifying singles round tomorrow morning, while main draw singles and doubles are set to begin on Friday.
The 90th-ranked and second-seeded duo of Noah Zamora and Hiroki Sakagawa are paired up for their second tournament of the fall. The two went 1-1 at the ITA All-American Championships, defeating Miami's Martin Katz/Antonio Prat, 6-4, 7-6 (3).
Also competing as doubles teams this weekend are Rithvik Krishna/Ruining Huang, Sohrob Amiryavari/Lawee Sherif and Max Fardanesh/Andy Nguyen. This will be the season debut for Nguyen, who was named the 2024 Big West Freshman of the Year.
The two singles finalists and doubles champion from the ITA Southwest Regional Championships will qualify for the NCAA Championships in November.
LAST TIME OUT
The 'Eaters were last in action at the San Diego Veterans Tennis Classic, Oct. 4-6. Rithvik Krishna went 3-0 in singles as he picked up wins against his opponents from Oregon, Navy and Cal. Max Fardanesh and Sohrob Amiryavari added two singles victories each. Ruining Huang earned his first collegiate win on the final day, taking down Ethan Schiffman of Cal in straight sets, 6-4, 6-3.

Noah Zamora is 121st in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Division I Men's Preseason Singles Rankings. Zamora is the only student-athlete in The Big West to be featured among the top-125 singles players in the nation. Earlier in the fall, he earned an upset win, toppling No. 64 Miguel Perez Pena of Georgia, 7-5, 6-3, at the ITA All-American Championships.
