IRVINE, Calif. – UCI fell to No. 7/7 Long Beach State, 11-6, in the Anteaters first match of the day.
 
Freshman Gage Verdegaal had a team high two goals to go along with two assists and a steal.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS

• Tyler Padua, Johann Thrall, Zachary Baxter, and Jasper Dale scored the other goals for the 'Eaters
• UCI outshot LBSU, 36-25
• Thomas Cass also dished out a team-best two assists
• Jacob Pyle made the start in the cage, blocking one shot
• Junior Garrett Selby made one save in 10:19 minutes of action
• Stewart Campbell and Jasper Dale each tallied game-best three steals
• The Anteaters scored the first goal of the game for the 11^th time this season
• No. 7/7 Long Beach State was led by Evan Cain who recorded four goals on five shots and tallied a steal

 
SCORING BREAKDOWN

• First period: Verdegaal fed Padua in the center of the cage where he battled two defenders for the spike into the cage. No. 7/7 Long Beach State scored two to lead, 2-1.

• Second period: UCI used the deflection off the defense to reset their offense that led to Luka Krstic passing to Baxter at the top of the formation. The Anteaters goal was sandwiched between two goals from the Beach on each end, 6-2.

• Third period: Both teams went back and forth in the period to add to their totals. As time was winding down, Cass found J. Dale for the launch over the hands of the LBSU keeper, still trailing, 8-4.

• Fourth period: No. 7/7 Long Beach State added one more at the beginning of the period before UCI started to mount a comeback with two consecutive goals, but ultimately fell short, 11-6.
