IRVINE, Calif.-- Another fifth-year talent returns with more in the tank and unfinished business as Erin Covey is back for the 2023 season.

"I'm looking forward to accomplishing another great season with my team and pushing ourselves to be greater," boasted the Anteater forward who has been a key contributor to UCI's success during her four seasons with the program. "I came back for my fifth year because I missed a year from Covid as well as tearing my ACL the year after. I love this sport and am not ready to be done! Being able to have this experience with these girls another year is truly a blessing and I can't wait to see what we accomplish."
Head Coach Scott Juniper echoes Covey's feelings with a ton of excitement and potential on another season with her in the mix.
"Erin Covey is an incredible talent in the front line or the midfield. When she gets possession of the ball you know good things are going to happen whether that is driving us forward or going to goal. She has excellent technique, can shoot from many angles and she will be a key player in what we do this season."
Covey came along early playing seven matches as a freshman in 2019 with an assist. The 2020 season was washed away due to Covid and 2021 ended abruptly with Covey tearing her ACL in the fourth match of the season after she had started each match prior. She came back with a vengeance in 2022 playing over 1,000 minutes in 22 matches, scoring three times including one in each match vs. Long Beach State, the game-winner in the Big West Final, and slotting home one of the penalty kicks in the shootout win over Brown. The sociology major is primed to pick up where she left off with another promising 2023 season ahead for her and the program
