Women's Soccer Releases 2023 Schedule
June 20, 2023 | Women's Soccer
IRVINE, Calif. --- UC Irvine women's soccer defends their Big West Tournament title and NCAA Sweet Sixteen run with a competitive 2023 schedule announced today. Tickets to go on sale starting July 6.
The season begins in Anteater Stadium with the first four matches of the season at home. Thursday night, the 'Eaters battle with Saint Mary's on August 17. Then a big matchup, the first of two Pac-12 matches on Sunday, August 20, as 2022 NCAA participant Stanford comes to Anteater Stadium for just the second time ever, first since 1988, and the teams meet for the first time since 2011.Β The second Pac-12 contest features UCLA, the first time a defending national champion has played a regular season match in Anteater Stadium, and the first meeting since UCI's upset of the Bruins in the 2021 NCAA Tournament.
The 'Eaters will team up with the men's soccer program twice for doubleheaders starting Thursday, August 24, as meetings with Pacific, UCLA, and Sacramento State will include a men's soccer match alongside the women's soccer contest:
The Anteaters test themselves to close non-conference play to a trip to the state of Oregon playing at Oregon State and Portland on September 7 and 10.Β
Big West play begins September 14 with a Black & Blue Rivalry Series matchup and rematch of the 2022 Big West final at Long Beach State. Five Big West matches come to Anteater Stadium with UCI hosting UC Santa Barbara (9/21), Cal Poly (10/8), UC San Diego (10/12), UC Riverside (10/15), and the regular season finale vs. UC Davis on Thursday, October 26.
Big West Tournaments begin at the tail end of October and into November at campus sites. Women's soccer's opening round will take place on campus sites of the higher seed with the regular season champion hosting the semifinal and final rounds and will adopt the men's soccer tournament format again this season with the top six teams in the Big West standings earning a tournament berth, first round matchups on Sunday, October 30, held at the campus site of the higher seed, first and second seeds earning a first round bye, and the overall regular season champion and No. 1 seed hosting the semifinals and final much like the Anteaters did in the 2022 season.
