Two Anteaters Earn All-Big West Honors

IRVINE, Calif. - Freshman Rei Harashima and junior Darien Zhao have been named to the 2023 All-Big West Men's Golf Team the conference office announced Tuesday afternoon.
 
Both Harashima and Zhao earned honorable mention distinction.
 
Zhao led UC Irvine with a 72.13 stroke average. He had 19 rounds at or below par with seven sub-70 scores. The San Diego native also owned a team-best three top-10 finishes. He tied for first at the Bill Cullum Invitational where he carded a 6-under 210 (68-70-72). Zhao added an eighth-place showing at The Joust and tied for sixth in a loaded field at the Western Intercollegiate, coming in at 2-under 208 (67-68-73). This is the second postseason honor for Zhao who was a first-team All-Big West selection in 2022.
 
In his first collegiate season, Harashima registered a 72.42 stroke average with five top-20 finishes. His best showing came at The Joust where he was third overall at 4-under 209 (65-73-71), while his best 54-hole score came at the Visit Stockton Invitational where he carded a 5-under 208 (11th). Harashima's first-round 65 at The Joust is tied for the sixth-best 18-hole score in program history. The Chula Vista, California, native was also among the top-20 at the Big West Championships, Bill Cullum Invitational and UC San Diego Invitational.
