Anteaters Add Freshman Kelsey Swyney

IRVINE, Calif.-- UC Irvine women's soccer adds just a pair of freshman to the mix starting with forward Kelsey Swyney.

The 5-7 striker hails from Carlsbad, Calif. playing club soccer in addition to her time at Carlsbad High School where she was a CIF Champion.

"I chose UCI because of the welcoming coaching staff and amazing atmosphere within the program."

Swyney is at the top of her game having played since she was three years old and now the top goal scorer on both her high school and club teams. She even ran track in high school and entered 2023 as an Athlete to Watch according to the San Diego Union Tribune after running a 25.01 in the 200m and also competing in 100m and 4x100m

"Kelsey was a player on our radar for a while, but we really got to know her at one of our camps. Kelsey is very comfortable with the ball and accelerates like a Tesla to beat players and get in behind the opposition AND she finishes well. She is another player with track experience which always reflects in a student-athlete's discipline for preparation and performance, and she will add something right away to the 2023 squad," said head coach Scott Juniper.

Swyney brings her track skills to the pitch much like her new teammate Alana Odom, and joins an Anteater squad fresh off 27 wins over the last two seasons with three coming in the NCAA Tournament and a pair of Big West Championships.
