June 07, 2023

IRVINE, Calif.-- UC Irvine women's soccer's incoming class continues with another grad transfer Madison Goerlinger.

A native of Orange, Calif. returns to Southern California after four years at the University of Arizona. She was awarded outstanding senior of her major human studies and family development which she received her degree in.

"I am extremely thankful and excited for the opportunity to spend my last collegiate season with a program that will continue to challenge me on and off the field. This program is something special and I am looking forward to being apart of this family."

The 5-8 Goerlinger played 70 matches in her four years as a Wildcat starting 62 times. In each season, she started in at least 14 matches posting over 1,100 minutes.

The defensive-minded midfielder helped the squad post 23 clean sheets as part of the program's 34 wins. Goerlinger made her only appearance in the NCAA Tournament in her freshman campaign reaching the second round during a 12-7-1 season, 1 of the 3 winning years for Arizona. She scored two of her four career goals that same freshman season including one in her first career match and added a second putting home the fourth goal of a 4-0 win over UC Irvine. Goerlinger added five career assists with four coming in her junior year.

Head Coach Scott Juniper is excited about addition Goerlinger and everything she brings. "Madison has over 5,000 minutes of Division 1 experience which is an indication of the level of player Madison is.  She is a player who combines a high level of technical ability, with a high degree of athleticism, an ability to read the game very well and a selfless team-first attitude.  Another extremely versatile player who can play anywhere in teh back line or wide on either wing.  Adding a player of Madison's vast experience will be an important piece of the puzzle in 2023 and we can't wait to get started."

Goerlinger and her versatility joins an Anteater squad fresh off 27 wins over the last two seasons with three coming in the NCAA Tournament and a pair of Big West Championships.
