SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - UC Irvine competed in the Challenge Cup Friday at UC Santa Barbara's Pauley Track & Field Facility.
Justin Willingham led the Anteaters as he won the shot put for the second week in a row and third time this season. Willingham took the victory on his sixth and final attempt where he went for a personal-record 55-09.25 to edge out Aiden Pastorian of Long Beach State by just over two inches. His mark ranks ninth in program history.
Quincy Stokes also registered a lifetime-best 52-10 on his last throw of the competition.
Willingham added another PR in the discus where he took third with a toss of 171-09, while Stokes was fourth in the hammer (173-06).
Julian Sotelo claimed runner-up honors in the javelin with a best of 192-08. He has thrown for over 190 feet in each of his last three meets.
On the track,

Brandon Burns,
Eric Parker and
Max Daniels kicked things off with a season-best 41.22 in the 4x100 relay.
Joshua Schuld took second in the 3000m where he ran the team's fastest time of the year at 8:42.56. He was also UCI's top performer in the 1500m with his personal-record 3:53.23 putting him third overall.
Zeid Hussain was fourth in a lifetime-best 3:54.05.
Jarel Sayles led a trio of 'Eaters in the 110m hurdles, finishing fourth in 14.64 seconds.
Maxwell Jefferson was right on his heels in fifth with a PR 14.68. The two traded positions in the 400H with Jefferson's lifetime-best 55.59 coming in fourth, and Sayles taking fifth at 55.66 in his first 400H race.
Overbaugh clocked a season-best 21.61 for a sixth-place showing in the 200m, while
Eric Parker was sixth in the 400m (48.67).
UC Irvine will be back in action next week with four local meets as it makes its way to the Bryan Clay Invitational (April 12-14), Pacific Coast Intercollegiate (April 13), Beach Invitational (April 14-15) and Mt. SAC Relays (April 14-15).
