LAS VEGAS, Nevada – UC Irvine surged up the leaderboard on the final day of the Big West Championship held at the Spanish Trail Country Club.
The Anteaters saved the best for last, recording a final round of 303, moving up to fifth with a three-round score of 919 (309-307-303). Cal Poly claimed the team title (893).
"I've traveled with the same five for almost all the events this season," head coach Margo Dionisio said. "We've done a lot of learning this year. Entering as the seventh seed, we knew we had something to prove. I'm really proud of their continued hard work and patience. Finishing fifth was a fight, but these ladies persevered. I'm looking forward to what next season brings."
Megan Yang carded a two-under par 70 Tuesday to place in a tie for seventh with a score of 224 (75-79-70). Yang led the tournament field in birdies with 11 and scoring on Par 5s, averaging 4.67 (-4). It is her third Top 10 performance of the season.
Freshman Kiana Briggs was just one over par on the final 18 holes to end in a tie for 11th place, her best career finish. She was hot to start the day, posting three consecutive birdies, on her way to back-to-back Top 20 performances with a 54-hole total of 227 (79-75-73).
Jasmine Chen also had a Top 20 outing, ending in a tie for 16th. She totaled a score of 230 (77-75-78) and matched Briggs with 34 pars each.
Charlotte Ryoo was 30th with a score of 238 (78-78-82), while Nicole Zhang returned to the lineup and had a final round of 85.
