LOS ANGELES - The UC Irvine men's tennis team squared off against Utah in singles and Denver in doubles on the first day of the LMU Invitational Friday at LMU Tennis Center.

In singles,
Andy Nguyen and
Ali Amiri made quick work of their respective opponents with identical 6-2, 6-3 victories. Nguyen took down the Utes' Gianluca Citadini at No. 5, while Amiri upended Geremia Ross at No. 4.
Hiroki Sakagawa also earned a straight-set win at the top of the lineup, defeating Bruno Krenn, 6-4, 6-3.
Lawee Sherif added a 6-3, 6-1 victory over Michael Blando at the sixth position, while
Rithvik Krishna outlasted Dylan Applegate in a first-set tiebreaker before riding the momentum to a 7-6 (2), 6-2 win at No. 3.

In doubles, Nguyen and
Matthew Sah upended Denver's Charlie Miller/Rikuto Yamaguchi on court three.

The 'Eaters will be back in action on Saturday, Nov. 11, when they face host Loyola Marymount in doubles and Denver in singles.
