Consistent Offense Helps UCI Defeat Westcliff

IRVINE, Calif. – Consistent offense from the UC Irvine men's water polo team led the to victory over Westcliff, 23-13, on Wednesday evening.
Junior Dylan Patist contributed a team best four goals on four shots in the contest.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Jake Liechty, Luka Krstic, and Johann Thrall each notched a hat-trick
- Brothers Jasper Dale and Wyley Dale along with Zachary Baxter chipped in two goals apiece
- Thomas Cass, Stewart Campbell, Jack Stevens, and John Billington rounded out the scoring effort
- Junior Garrett Selby made the start in the cage, recording four saves and an assist in eight minutes of action
- Nolan Cary made an appearance between the pipes in the second period
- Jacob Pyle played the remaining 19:36 in the cage and stopped four shots
- Pyle also contributed three assists and two steals
- Cass, Liechty, Patist, Campbell, and Stevens all dished out two assists each
- Tyler Laymon had a game best three steals
- Westcliff was led by Manuel Augusto who recorded six goals on ten shots along with one assist and one steal
SCORING BREAKDOWN
- First period: No. 9 UC Irvine notched the first two goals of the contest, but Westcliff was able to get one back to cut their deficit to one. After the Warriors goal, the Anteaters went on a 6-0 run to lead, 8-1.
- Thrall (2), Baxter (1), Campbell (1), Cass (1), W. Dale (1), Liechty (1), and Stevens (1)
- Second period: Westcliff into the second period with passion, scoring in fits. After UCI's response to the Warriors first two goals, Westcliff then went on a 5-0 run that ended with a lob shot into the cage from Krstic. The Anteaters lead narrowed, 12-9.
- Baxter (1), J. Dale (1), Krstic (1), and Patist (1)
- Third period: Each team answered each other's goals with one of their own. Liechty scored two goals in the period off upper shelf shots to extend the UCI lead, 17-12.

- Fourth period: Westcliff added a tally early, but Krstic's and Patist's two goals each helped UC Irvine go on a 6-0 run to win, 23-13.
