ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - Emma McCarthy highlighted Saturday's action at the UNM Team Open with her second school record of the weekend at the Albuquerque Convention Center.

After running the fastest 600m in program history yesterday, McCarthy was back at it again, setting a new standard in the 800m. The graduate student ran an altitude-adjusted time of 2:12.41 to top the previous best of 2:12.93 that was set by Crystal Lizaola in 2017. It also beat her PR from two weeks ago by over a second. McCarthy finished eighth in the invitational race.

The Anteaters had four individuals place among the top-10 in the 800m Open. Sophomore
Alexis Alexander led the way in third with a lifetime-best 2:13.75, which is tied for third in program history. Sophomore
Malia Gay was sixth (2:16.70) in her indoor debut, while junior
Cathy Salazar-Gasca was only two-thousandths of a second behind in seventh. Freshman
Reina Kabbara rounded out the quartet in 10th (2:20.76).

Montgomery Allison made her season debut in the mile, placing seventh overall with a time of 5:15.34.

Deandra Tyler finished fifth in the shot put with a toss of 46-05.5. Freshman
Sydney Gontang added a top-10 showing in her first collegiate meet. Gontang's mark of 42-01.25 puts her at No. 6 in program history.

Reyna Johnson led the 'Eaters in the 60m hurdle prelims with a time of 9.06 seconds. Sophomore
Jolie Robinson also ran a season-best 9.37, and junior
Journee Harvey clocked in at 9.45 in her first 60H race.

Aryel Coats was UCI's top finisher in the 60m prelims, coming in at 7.91 seconds. Junior
Amari Fraser added a 400m indoor PR of 58.67.

The Anteaters closed out the two-day meet in the 4x400 relay.
Sienna Frederiksen, McCarthy,
Lauren Aquino and Alexander combined for a season-best 3:53.31.

UC Irvine returns to the Albuquerque Convention Center next weekend for the NM Collegiate Classic, Feb. 3-4.
