IRVINE, Calif. – Several Anteaters had success across the globe with USA Volleyball this summer.
Current student-athletes Francesco Sani and Cole Power were members of the U.S. team that won a bronze medal at the Pan American Cup Final Six with a 3-0 victory over Puerto Rico (27-25, 25-22, 25-23) in Tepic, Nayarit, Mexico.
Sani led all scorers with 20 points on a match-high 19 kills and one ace in a hard fought five-set loss to Canada in the semifinals before adding 10 points in the bronze medal match. The U.S. Men finished the tournament 4-3, earning their second straight bronze-medal finish in the event.
Alumni David Smith and Kyle Russell helped the U.S. Men's National Team at the 2022 Volleyball Nations League where the Americans claimed a silver medal. Being down 0-2, the U.S. came charging back, but were just short in a 3-2 loss to France (25-16, 25-19, 15-25, 21-25, 15-10) in the championship match held in Bologna, Italy.
Smith, a three-time Olympian, was named to the VNL Dream Team as Best Middle Blocker.
Next, the U.S. will compete in the 2022 FIVB Men's World Championship Aug. 26-Sept. 11 in Poland.
