IRVINE, Calif. -Β Sophomore Kassidy Sani is set to represent the UC Irvine women's track & field team at the NCAA West Preliminary Championships in Fayetteville, Arkansas, this week.Β

Sani qualified in the javelin and will begin her postseason journey Thursday at 12 p.m. (PT) at John McDonnell Field on the campus of the University of Arkansas. This is Sani's first NCAA appearance.

The top-12 finishers in each individual event will advance to the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships, June 8-11, at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon.

β’ Sani is in her first year competing in the javelin.
β’ She had back-to-back victories at The Battle in the OC and Steve Scott Invitational in April.
β’ Sani was also the Big West runner-up with a nearly 10-foot personal record and NCAA qualifying toss of 153-02.
β’ That mark ranks second in the conference and boosted her into the top-48 in the West Region.
β’ It also moved her up to No. 2 in program history (since 1999).
β’ Sani was named the Big West Women's Field Athlete of the Week on April 26.
β’ She was recognized after winning the discus, hammer and javelin at The Battle in the OC (April 22).
β’ Sani is UCI's first regional qualifier in the women's javelin since Lacey Surak in 2014.

The NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships are set for June 8-11 in Eugene, Oregon. The championship field will be comprised of the top-12 finishers in each event at the two regional meets this week.
