FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - Sophomore Kassidy Sani represented the UC Irvine women's track & field team at the NCAA West Preliminary Championships Thursday at John McDonnell Field.

Sani finished 26th in the javelin, placing 18 spots ahead of her ranking entering the meet. After two rounds, the Cazadero, California, native was 15th in Flight 1 before launching a toss of 46.29m (151-10) on her final attempt to move all the way up the leaderboard. Her mark stood as the best in her flight.

The top-12 overall finishers qualified for the NCAA Championships in Eugene, Oregon.

Sani finishes her first year competing in the javelin with the No. 2 mark in program history (153-02), which she established in a runner-up showing at the Big West Championships. During the regular season, Sani placed among the top-10 in all seven of her competitions with individual victories at The Battle in the OC and the Steve Scott Invitational.
