Live Scoring

SANTA CRUZ, Calif. -
The UC Irvine men's golf team finished a tough first round at the 75th Western Intercollegiate Monday at Pasatiempo Golf Club.

With rainy and windy weather conditions adding to an already difficult course, all teams in the loaded field are currently above par. Play was suspended due to darkness with three groups still on the course. They will finish their final hole, No. 18, prior to the start of their second round.

Eighth-ranked Pepperdine currently leads the way at 18-over with the 18th hole remaining for all six of its golfers. Individually, four players are tied atop the standings at even par.

The Anteaters combined for a 6-count-5 total of 389 to sit in 12th place. They are two strokes ahead of No. 12 Stanford, which still has one hole left to play in the first round, while they are right on the heels of BYU (386), USC (384) and No. 30 Arizona (381).

Darien Zhao, Henry Fitzhugh and Matt Gunson each carded a first-round 77 (+7) to tie for 40th. Gunson finished with a team-best three birdies.

Johnny Bai and Kolbe Irei also registered a 79 to tie for 60th, and Nathan Irwin rounded out UCI's lineup in 82nd (83).

UC Irvine returns to Pasatiempo Golf Club on Tuesday for the second round of the Western Intercollegiate. The Anteaters' tee times are scheduled for 12:06, 12:18 and 12:30 p.m.
