SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - Kayla Rodriguez led the UC Irvine women's track & field team Thursday at the UCSB Invitational as she climbed four spots in the heptathlon standings for a sixth-place finish.
Rodriguez, who entered the day in 10th, added 1,788 points over the final three events for a total of 4,063. She got out to a strong start in the long jump with a personal-record 17-00.5. Rodriguez also had a season-best 98-07 in the javelin, before closing out the day in the 800m where she clocked in at 2:29.74. She had the third-best time of the meet.
Shaelyn Amos finished 10th overall with 3,745 points, and
Chaselyn Amos was 11th with 3,707 points. Shaelyn established a season-best 85-01 in the javelin, while Chaselyn notched a lifetime-best 16-09.75 in the long jump.
It was the first career heptathlon for all three 'Eaters.
The rest of the UC Irvine track & field team will be in action on Friday, March 11, for the final day of the UCSB Invitational.
