No. 7 UC Irvine Scores Wins Over LBSU, UC Davis

LA JOLLA, Calif. --- The UCSD Triton Invite ended Sunday with the seventh-ranked Anteaters taking home a pair of wins over Big West competition at Canyonview Aquatic Center to finish fifth place.
7-5 Win vs. #13 Long Beach State
The day started out early with an 8:00 a.m. first sprint against No. 13 Long Beach State. The 'Eaters (7-3) charged out with another strong opening quarter shutting out the Beach while scoring twice.
Tara Prentice was one of those two goals, and Brooke Banta joined her in the second quarter as the two Anteaters with multi-goal games. The Beach closed the gap to a one-goal game at the half with UCI up, 4-3.
The defense picked back up with a second shutout period in the third, and kept arm's length in the fourth period thanks to Faith Tedesco in goal to preserve the 7-5 victory.
9-6 Win vs. #10 UC Davis
An early comeback victory for the tenth-ranked Aggies set up another Big West showdown in the afternoon. The opening period saw the 'Eaters jump out to a 2-0 lead from Toni Shackelford and Elena Flynn goals. The Aggies tied things up, but a goal in the final seconds from Jessica Lynch gave UCI the 3-2 lead at the break.
The lead ballooned to 6-3 by the half with three more Anteater goals, and they charged on scoring five consecutive goals that included a shutout third period from Tedesco and the defense.
UCI closed out the 9-6 win on the game that featured nine different UCI scorers. UC Irvine finished the invite with a 3-1 record to go to 7-3 on the year.
Next week features a pair of road matchups starting Thursday afternoon at LMU before UCI's first Big West contest on Saturday at CSUN.
