| By:
IRVINE, Calif. -- Joy Umeh was honored as Big West Offensive Player of the Week, while Campbell Jensen was named the Big West Freshman of the Week.

It is the second time this season each student-athlete has garnered the accolade with Umeh earning the fourth of her career. Umeh is the lone woman in the 2022 season to claim Offensive Player of the Week on two occasions.

Umeh led the UCI offense in victories over CSU Bakersfield and Cal Poly, snapping the Mustangs' six match winning streak. Umeh posted averages of 4.67 kills, 1.11 digs, 0.89 blocks and 5.11 points in nine sets played. The outside hitter led UC Irvine in the win against CSU Bakersfield with a season-high 24 kills while adding six digs and four block assists.

The next night she had 18 kills, while hitting .317 (18-5-41) against the Mustangs. She added four more block assists and four digs as well.

Freshman Campbell Jensen was once again stellar on defense, averaging 5.78 digs per set last week. The libero matched her career-high with 29 digs versus CSUB, while adding two aces and nine set assists. Her 29 digs are tied for fifth most this season by a Big West player.

The freshman followed that up with 23 digs versus Cal Poly,  while pitching in four assists and an ace versus the Mustangs. On the year, Jensen has recorded 20 or more kills nine times, including each of the last four outings.

The Anteaters are on the road this week, heading to UC Santa Barbara Thursday (Oct. 27) and CSUN Sunday (Oct. 29)..
