IRVINE, Calif. - The UC Irvine women's cross country team returns to the course this weekend, traveling to Sunnyvale, California, for the Bronco Invitational on Saturday, Oct. 15. Ten Anteaters are entered in the 6K Invitational which is set to get underway at 9:30 a.m. at Baylands Regional Park.
QUICK HITS
• UC Irvine is 15th in the USTFCCCA West Region Rankings.
• The 'Eaters placed among the top-four in the team standings in each of their first two meets.
• UCI claimed runner-up honors at the Anteater Opener and came in fourth at the UC Riverside Invitational.

UC Irvine entered the USTFCCCA West Region rankings on Sept. 26 and has held the No. 15 spot in each of the last two polls. The 'Eaters are one of four Big West schools in the West Region's top-15 as they are joined by No. 8 UC Davis, No. 10 Cal State Fullerton and No. 14 Cal Poly.
LAST TIME OUT
UC Irvine was fourth out of 31 teams in their last outing at the UC Riverside 6K Invitational on Sept. 17. The Anteaters totaled 181 points to come in behind team champion Arizona (140), Cal Poly (141) and Southern Utah (149). They finished ahead of eight other Big West schools including UC Santa Barbara, UC Riverside, Long Beach State and UC Davis. Sophomore Anna Vogtmann led three 'Eaters in the top-20 with a seventh-place showing. She completed the 6K course in a lifetime-best 20:24.6 to move up to No. 3 on UCI's all-time charts. Sophomore Sameen Andar wasn't far behind in eighth as she clocked a one-minute personal-record 20:26.5. Her time ranks fourth in program history. Fifth-year senior Hannah Chau added a top-20 performance in her season debut, crossing the finish line in 20:49.7 (19th). Chau already ranks second in school history with a PR 20:16.9, which she ran at last year's Highlander Invitational.
RECORD BREAKERS
Sophomore Sameen Andar broke the 4K school record in the first meet of the season. Andar shaved nearly 44 seconds off her personal best from 2021 with a time of 14:10.4, which narrowly topped Hannah Chau's standard of 14:11.0 from last year's Anteater Opener. Also making their way into the program's all-time top-10 in the 4K were Anna Vogtmann (5th, 14:24.9), Olivia Liuson (8th, 14:41.3) and Maggie Sczupak (9th, 14:42.5).
CHAMPIONSHIP GOALS
UC Irvine is coming off its best Big West and NCAA Regional finish since 2008. Last year, the Anteaters cracked the top-four at the conference meet and were just outside the West Region's top-15 as they came in five points behind UCLA to place 16th. With the core group of scorers back for another season together, the 'Eaters are primed to take the next step with their sights set on a Big West title and a top-10 regional finish.

The Anteaters will head to Fullerton for the Titan Invitational next Friday, Oct. 21, before making their way back out to Riverside for the Big West Championships on Saturday, Oct. 29.
