MEN'S INDOOR VOLLEYBALL (France - Kevin Tillie)
After finishing fourth in Pool B, France and former Anteater All-American Kevin Tillie knocked off Pool A winner Poland, 3-2 to advance to the semifinals. Tillie played in two sets.
France will battle Argentina at 5:00 a.m. Thursday. In the first meeting of the teams, Argentina won 3-2 with the final set, 15-13. Brazil will meet ROC in the first semifinal.
WOMEN'S INDOOR VOLLEYBALL (USA - Michelle Bartsch-Hackley)
The U.S. Women's Volleyball Team cruised to a 25-11, 25-20, 25-19 win over the Dominican Republic in the quarterfinal round on Wednesday, Aug. 4. Former UCI men's volleyball assistant coach Michelle Bartsch-Hackley finished the three-set match with 12 kills and one block.
The Americans advance to the semifinals at 1 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 6 (Pacific Time = 9 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 5), where they will take on Serbia with a spot in the Gold Medal Match on the line. The second semifinal features Brazil and South Korea.
WOMEN'S WATER POLO (USA - Dan Klatt, Melissa Seidemann, Kaleigh Gilchrist, Alys Williams, Jamie Neushul)
U.S. women's water polo won its quarterfinal match against Canada, 16-5. Williams scored three times, Gilchrist scored once, and Seidemann played 12 minutes at center for the squad. Coach Klatt and the U.S. prepare for their semifinal match on August 5, 11:30 p.m. PDT against the ROC.
MEN'S WATER POLO (Croatia - Lovre Milos)
Croatia fell to Hungary, 15-11, in the men's water polo quarterfinals on Wednesday, Aug. 4. It was a tightly contested match with neither team leading by more than three through the first three quarters. Milos, who started and played 13 minutes, found the back of the net at the 3:49 mark of the third frame to tie it up at 8-8, but Hungary would take the lead for good on their next possession.
Milos and his teammates, who are out of medal contention, will continue play in the classification round, starting with a 2 p.m. match against Montenegro on Friday, Aug. 6 (Pacific Time = 10 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 5).
