Anteaters Shine on Day Two of UCR/LBSU Split Meet

RIVERSIDE & LONG BEACH, Calif. - The UC Irvine women's track & field team combined for two individual victories and five personal records Friday at the UC Riverside Sprints Invitational and the Long Beach State Throws Fest.

In Riverside, Kayla Richardson, the reigning Big West Women's Track Athlete of the Week, continued to lead the sprints squad. The Walnut, Calif., native won the 200m in a personal-record 23.90. Despite running into a headwind of 1.4 meters per second, she improved her No. 2 time in program history by four-hundredths of a second.

Richardson was also the top Big West finisher, and overall runner-up in the 100m (11.86). Ashley Tabag added a season-best 12.85.

Amari Fraser notched a fourth-place finish in the 100m hurdles (14.55), while Cecily Montanez (64.08) and Fraser (64.27) contributed top-10 showings in the 400m hurdles.

Alexis Alexander clocked a personal-record 2:20.15 in the 800m.

Fraser, Aryel Coats, Mia Marquez and Richardson closed out the afternoon by taking second in the 4x400 relay (3:55.76).

Over in Long Beach, Brianna Villanueva paced the throws squad with her fifth hammer victory of the season, winning the event with a toss of 184-00. She was the only competitor in the 15-person field to surpass 180 feet. Tayla Crenshaw added a top-five finish, coming in fourth (168-08).

Deandra Tyler and Crenshaw both established personal bests to place second and third in the shot put. Tyler was the runner-up at 44-00.5, improving on her No. 6 mark in program history. Crenshaw also moved up to seventh on the all-time charts with a PR 43-11.75. In addition, Cassious Fiaui hadΒ a lifetime-best 36-06.75.

In the discus, Villanueva led a trio of 'Eaters with a fourth-place performance (151-03).
