IRVINE, Calif. - The UC Irvine men's track & field team is set to compete in the UC Riverside/Long Beach State Invitational split meet this week. The distance and sprints/hurdles crews make their way to Riverside, April 29-30, while the throwers and jumpers head to Long Beach, April 30-May 1.
The 'Eaters will square off against CSUN, Cal State Fullerton, CSU Bakersfield, UC San Diego, and hosts Long Beach State and UC Riverside. It will be the Anteaters' final tune-up before the Big West Championships.

• Four 'Eaters have combined for five marks that rank among the program's all-time top-10 this season.

Josh Farmer has the second-best point total in the decathlon (7,648) and 10th-best distance in the long jump (23-11).

2021 BIG WEST CHAMPIONSHIPS
UC Irvine is set to host the 2021 Big West Championships, starting with the heptathlon and decathlon, May 7-8. The rest of the events will be held the following week, May 13-15. In accordance with COVID-19 health and safety guidelines, spectators will not be allowed at Anteater Stadium for the conference championships.

LAST TIME OUT
Despite falling to Cal State Fullerton in the OC Dual, the Anteaters combined for a number of top performances, highlighted by a one-two finish in the discus from
Jacob Hawkins and
Noah Holm. Hawkins claimed his first collegiate victory with a toss of 176-04 on his final attempt, while Holm added a lifetime-best 174-10 as the duo now ranks eighth and ninth in school history, respectively. Holm was also the shot put champion with a season-best 56-03.
Jack Pickard added a first-place finish in the javelin (191-11), and
Seth Enochs registered the top mark of the meet in the long jump at 23-04.5. On the track,
Jason Messner made a late push to win the 800m by two-hundredths of a second, notching a lifetime-best 1:56.90.
Malcolm Overbaugh contributed PRs in the 200m (21.73) and 400m (48.66).

Tobi Adegoke also combined for a season-best 42.04 in the 4x100 relay.

FARMER EARNS ATHLETE OF THE WEEK HONORS
Junior
Josh Farmer was named the Big West Men's Field Athlete of the Week on April 13 after winning the decathlon with a personal-record 7,648 points at the Franson Classic Multis. In his first decathlon since 2019, and first as an Anteater, Farmer posted the second-best score in school history, sitting behind only 1978 national champion Mauricio Bardales. His mark also ranks first in the Big West, fifth in the West Region and ninth in the nation this season. The San Diego native established lifetime bests in seven of the 10 events, including a leap of 23-11 in the long jump, which puts him at No. 10 in program history. Farmer's last decathlon was at the 2019 Pac-12 Championships where he had a podium finish as a true freshman at Colorado.

THROWING IT OUT THERE
Junior
Kyle Tsu is currently tops in the Big West in the shot put with a season-best 57-09.75. That is just over an inch shy of his personal-record 57-11.25 from two years ago, which ranks third in school history. A 2019 All-Big West performer and NCAA West Preliminary qualifier, Tsu also notched a personal-record 174-08 in the discus at the season-opening Ben Brown Invitational, putting him at No. 10 among UCI's all-time leaders.
Jacob Hawkins (176-04) and
Noah Holm (174-10) have added top-10 marks in the discus this year as they sit at No. 8 and No. 9, respectively.

LONG JUMP LEADER
Senior
Seth Enochs is the top returning long jumper from the 2019 Big West Championships where he was the runner-up with a wind-aided personal-record 25-04. He also came in 15th at the 2019 NCAA West Preliminary Championships, and ranks fourth in school history with a wind-legal PR of 25-00.75. In 2021, Enochs owns a season-best 23-11, which is tied for second in the conference.

BACK ON TRACK
Prior to the season opener, senior javelin thrower
Jack Pickard was last in action at the NCAA West Prelims in May 2019. He advanced to the postseason two years ago with a school-record 221-00. Pickard didn't miss a beat after the long hiatus, starting the 2021 campaign with an individual victory in the javelin at the Ben Brown Invitational (205-05), and later establishing a season-best 213-10 at the Fullerton Spring Invitational. He ranks third in the Big West.

NEW KID ON THE BLOCK
Freshman
Jarel Sayles has had an impressive start to his collegiate career, placing among the top-two in each of his six 110-meter hurdle races. He picked up individual victories at the Red & Black Invitational and Fullerton Spring Invitational, while establishing a season-best 14.49 in a runner-up finish at UCLA.
