IRVINE, Calif. -Â The UC Irvine men's golf team will make its way to the Inland Empire for its second tournament of the 2021 season as it is set to compete in The Joust at Goose Creek in Jurupa Valley, Calif., Feb. 22-23.

TOURNAMENT INFO
The two-day tournament will be held at Goose Creek Golf Course. Thirty-six holes will be contested on Monday, while the final round is slated for Tuesday. Both days will have an 8 a.m. shotgun start. The Anteaters are part of a 14-team field that also features host California Baptist, Cal State Fullerton, Loyola Marymount, Grand Canyon, Idaho, North Dakota State, Oakland, Pacific, Sacramento State, Utah Valley, UC Santa Barbara, UC San Diego and Washington State. The tournament will crown three champions - individual medalist, team champion (5-count-4) and an All-Five Team Champion (team with best five-player score).

LAST TIME OUT
In its first team competition in 11 months, UC Irvine finished fourth at the second annual Orange County Collegiate Classic at Coto de Caza South Course, Feb. 8-9. The Anteaters combined for a 54-hole score of 901 (297-308-296). Graduate student
Jonathan Kang paced UCI's 5-count-4 lineup, carding a 1-over 217 (73-71-73). Kang tied for sixth for his seventh career top-10 finish. Junior
Matt Gunson also tied for 15th with a total of 222 (74-73-75), while freshman
Darien Zhao (74-88-71) and junior
Nathan Irwin (76-80-77) both registered a 233 to tie for 32nd.

Competing as an individual, junior
Ethan Han was UC Irvine's top performer, tying for fourth. It was his first career top-10 finish. After posting back-to-back personal collegiate-best rounds of 71 (-1), Han closed out the tournament at even-par 216. Freshman
Henry Fitzhugh, also participating as an individual, notched a top-20 showing in his collegiate debut as he tied for 19th (225).
NEWS & NOTES
• This is California Baptist's second annual tournament, and the first time UC Irvine will be competing in The Joust.
• The Anteaters hosted the second annual OC Collegiate Classic, Feb. 8-9, at Coto de Caza South Course.
• It marked the third year in a row they opened the spring season on one of their home courses.

Ethan Han recorded his first career top-10 finish, coming in fourth with a personal collegiate-best 216 (E).
• Han started the year with back-to-back rounds of 1-under 71 and compiled a team-leading 13 birdies.
• Graduate student
Jonathan Kang is back after the NCAA granted an extra year to the 2020 spring sport seniors.
• Since the start of the shortened 2019-20 season, Kang has registered a 72.76 average through seven tournaments.
• During that stretch, he has finished at or below par in 10 of 21 rounds played with three sub-70 scores.
• Kang has seven career top-10 finishes including at each of the last two Big West Championships.
• Junior
Matt Gunson owns a 74.56 scoring average in 12 career tournaments played.
• Gunson was the conference's top freshman at the 2019 Big West Championships where he came in 10th.

Nathan Irwin played in only one tournament last year, but had a 75.86 average in 21 rounds in 2018-19.
• Three of the Anteaters' four true freshmen made their collegiate debut at the OC Collegiate Classic two weeks ago.

Henry Fitzhugh led the trio with a top-20 showing as he tied for 19th.

Darien Zhao and
Kolbe Irei placed 32nd and 42nd, respectively.
• Irei (Roosevelt HS) was a four-time Oahu Interscholastic First-Team All-Star and two-time MVP.
• Zhao was also the 2019 Palomar League individual champion at Rancho Bernardo High School in San Diego.
• Fitzhugh (St. Francis HS) placed among the top-10 at the 2019 L.A. City Junior Championship.
• Over the summer,

Jonathan Kang competed in the 109th California Amateur Championship.
