RIVERSIDE, Calif. - The UC Irvine men's cross country team hit the course for the first time in three weeks, finishing 15th at the Highlander Invitational Saturday at UC Riverside.

For the second meet in a row, freshmen
Joshua Schuld and
Zeid Hussain led the Anteaters. Schuld completed the 8,000-meter UCR Ag/Ops Course in 25:02.4, while Hussain was right on his heels at 25:02.6. In a field of 290 athletes, the two finished 51st and 52nd, respectively.

Freshman
Lukas Amare finished his first career 8K with a time of 25:17.3 (71st), while classmate
Cameron Smith came in at 25:38.5 (94th).

In his season debut, junior
Sebastian Bautista, who was running his first competitive race in over a year, was UC Irvine's No. 5, clocking in at 26:06.6.

Freshman
Joshua Ochoa added a season-best 26:12.1, and freshman
Juan Sanchez rounded out the squad's top-seven at 26:13.2.

UC Irvine is back in action next week, making the short trip to Cal State Fullerton for the Titan Invite on Friday, Oct. 22.
