'Eaters Top Cal Twice in 2020
Women's Water Polo
January 18 and March 8, 2020
Before 2020, UCI had only beat Cal once in program history. That changed this season when the 'Eaters defeated Cal in their season-opener on Jan. 18 by a score of 12-7 and again on March 8, winning 9-7. UCI's first time defeating the Bears came during the 2005 season.
The Anteaters opened the season against the fifth-ranked Bears at the UCSB Winter Invitational in January. UCI used a balanced scoring attack to seal the win as five different Anteaters scored a pair of goals including Tara Prentice, Toni Shackelford, Piper Smith, Elena Flynn and Megan Falcon.
The two teams met for the third time of the season on March 8 in Berkeley. Tara Prentice led the 'Eaters with four goals in the 9-7 win. Danielle Ayala scored twice while Sarah Nichols, Jessica Lynch and Megan Falcon each added one goal. Morgan Jones finished with seven saves as UCI defeated Cal on its home turf.
