Tara Prentice, a senior on the women's water polo team, was recently named UCI's 2019 Big West Conference Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year. A double major in criminology, law & society and physiological sciences, she has upheld a GPA of better than 3.5 while interning with the Criminal Defense Law Firm and contributing as a member of the National Society of Leadership and Success. Her excellence in the classroom earned recognition for Highest Honors on the 2019 Big West Commissioner's Honor Roll.
The senior utility also had a successful 2020 season in the pool, leading the team with 57 goals and 16 steals while tying for third with nine assists in 20 games played. Prentice was named the Big West Player of the Week on Jan. 29 after scoring 12 goals and notching five steals in four games at the Cal Cup. In addition, she matched her single-game career-high with five goals on two occasions, the last coming in a win against San Diego State on Feb. 29. Following the season, she received first-team ACWPC All-America honors.
After graduating, the Temecula native aims to pursue a professional career overseas and eventually wants to attend law school.
