September 01, 2019 | Men's Soccer
BERKELEY, Calif. --- UC Irvine men's soccer fought for its first result of 2019 drawing at Cal Sunday afternoon, 1-1, in Edwards Stadium.
Nothing Early
The sides played a scoreless first half, but Cal (1-0-1) held a majority of the possession and chances. The Golden Bears outshot UCI (0-1-1) 8-2, and put up the biggest scoring opportunity in the 31st minute.
Arman Samimi put up a pair of chances back-to-back that Ford Parker was keen to stopping the initial try and turning the rebound away for his only two saves of the half.
The teams were even in fouls committing four each while UCI secured three of the four corner kicks
You Bet
The Anteaters produced most of the offense in the early stages of the second half. Beto Alvarenga broke through in the 52nd minute scoring an unassisted goal after a pair of blocked shots earlier in the sequence to UCI's first goal and lead of 2019
Back Even
The Anteaters looked to play their 1-0 lead out, but Cal drew things even in the 80th minute. Thomas Williamson, the match's leading shottaker with five, put one in the back of the net after a Fahmi Ibrahim shot was denied to tie the match at 1-1.
Over and Out
The match spilled into overtime knotted at 1-1, and neither side gave an inch unable to find a goal. Cal outshot the 'Eaters, 6-2, in the extra frames, but only directed one on goal, while the 'Eaters put both shots on target, both saved to finish the match in a draw
Final Score: #25 UC Irvine 1, Cal 1

His counterpart, Noah Texter, stopped eight shots as UCI directed nine of their 14 shots on target. Each side earned a yellow card with Victor Falck drawing the caution for UCI.
