UC Irvine Ends Oregon Classic With Loss To Boston College

EUGENE, Oregon – UC Irvine ended the Oregon Classic with a 3-0 loss to Boston College Saturday at the Matthew Knight Arena.
BC out-hit UCI .248 to .193 and recorded 10 aces in the win.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
>Freshman Onye Ofoegbu led the team for the first time with eight kills and two block assists
>Middle blocker Makayla Wolfe and outside hitters Loryn Carter and Abby Marjama each pitched in seven kills

TURNING POINTS
FIRST SET
>Boston College jumped out to a quick 5-0 lead and forcing head coach Ashlie Hain to burn an early timeout
>UCI would get to 6-3 on an Onye Ofeogbu kill, only to watch the Eagles reel off six in a row to increase their lead to 12-3
>Down 17-9, UCI rallied with an Eagle attack error, a kill by Loryn Carter, block by Ofoegbu and Cassie Stewart and an ace by Laura Butler, 17-13
>The Anteaters would continue to battle, but the early deficit was too much to overcome as BC would take the set 25-18
SECOND SET
>UCI fell behind early again (5-1), but clawed back in with a 4-1 run to get to 6-5
>Three in a row by the Eagles opened an 11-7 advantage
>A pair of kills by Onoegbu and one by Abby Marjama narrowed the gap to 17-14, forcing a BC timeout
>Two kills by Makayla Wolfe helped UCI to close within 19-18, but the Eagles would answer, closing out the set with a 6-1 run, 25-19
THIRD SET
>Four Anteater errors helped the Eagles once again open a large lead early, 7-2
>UCI would chip away and use kills by Ofeogbu and Stewart and a BC attack error to sneak within 12-11
>BC would regain control with a 9-2 spurt, 21-13
>UCI wasn't done going on a 5-1 run of their own, which included two kills by Carter, 23-20
>Boston College would end the match with the final two points, 25-20
